When Roger McGuinn stopped by the studios of WKSU / FolkAlley.com to record a few songs and visit, he didn’t know he’d be doing a Christmas song. It was June, after all. But when he was finished playing a couple of other tunes, we described “Ornaments and Icing” to him, and he said he’d love to be a part of it.



He had recently released his Folk Den Project, a 4-CD set of widely ranging folk tunes, recorded over 10 years and featured on his website. He simply didn’t want people to forget these wonders. A version of this song is there, in a different key. For us he left his guitar in its more usual tuning, and we added the lovely upright bass work of our session man, Evan Lewis.
